Here in Oregon it is fairly common to see a beautiful lawn ruined because of dirt mounds all over it. Many of us have had this happen to our very own yard and it is very frustrating. We have three kinds of moles, but the most common is the townsend mole.
The Townsend mole is the largest mole in North America with its size ranging from 5-8 inches in length. It has black fur with a short tail and a pointed snout. Its two front paws are what allows the Townsend mole to dig so well. Their front paws are spade like in shape and larger than its rear paws. It has small eyes and its ears are small enough that they are hard to see.
The diet of the Townsend mole mainly consists of worms and insects. Its diet is not like that of the gopher, which has a diet that consists of plants. If it wasn't for the dirt mounds that ruins the a ppearance of your lawn, they would be fairly beneficial for keeping insects away.
